Technician Careers : Careers as Technician
Technicians in aerospace engineering and operations are responsible for building, testing, and maintain airplane and space vehicles. Technicians standardize test apparatus and find out reasons of equipment break down. With the help of computer and communications systems, technicians frequently record and interpret data. Civil engineering technicians assist in designing and supervising construction of buildings, bridges, roads, highways, wastewater dams, treatment systems. Some other technicians calculate approximately construction costs and give materials to be used. Technicians who working in the field of electrical and electronics engineering assist in designing, testing and producing electrical and electronic utensils like radar, industrial, medical monitoring or control devices, navigational, computers and communication equipment. Electromechanical engineering technicians combine knowledge of mechanical engineering technology with knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits to design, develop, test, and manufacture electronic and computer-controlled mechanical systems. Their work often overlaps that of both electrical and electronics engineering technicians and mechanical engineering technicians. Environmental engineering technicians assist environmental engineers and scientists in preparing procedures and equipments which are used in averting, managing or correcting environmental hazards. They supervise and maintain equipment used to control air pollution. Environmental engineering technicians examine water and water treatment systems to control water pollution. Industrial engineering technicians are responsible for managing personnel efficiently, resources, and equipments in industry, maintenance. They also organize layouts of equipments and machinery, manage work flow, conduct statistical studies of production time or quality, and study production budget. Technicians working in mechanical engineering field assist engineers in designing, developing, testing, and manufacturing industrial equipments, customer products, and other materials. They also prepare sketch and layout, gather and assess data, estimate and calculate, and report on their findings. Mechanical engineering technicians also are responsible for calculating labor rates, machinery life. Most engineering technicians enter the occupation with an associate degree in engineering technology. Training is available at technical institutes, community colleges, extension divisions of colleges and universities, public and private vocational-technical schools, and in the Armed Forces. Because the type and quality of training programs vary considerably, prospective students should carefully investigate training programs before enrolling. Eligibility and Qualification for Technician Career: To be a technician in certain engineering field it is not necessary to take formal training. Candidate with two year associate degree in technology is preferred. Candidates who have completed their college courses in engineering science and mathematics are also eligible for the technicians' job provided they take additional special training and experience. Most two year associate degree programs which accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. These associate degree programs contains college algebra and trigonometry and one or two science courses. According to course, there is need for more mathematics and science. There are many specialize technicians courses are available. For mechanical engineering technicians, one may courses like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design. For electrical engineering technicians, you should complete classes in electrical circuits, microprocessors, and digital electronics. Technical institutes offer intensive technical training through application and practice, but they provide less theory and general education than do community colleges. Many technical institutes offer 2-year associate degree programs and are similar to or part of a community college or State university system. Other technical institutes are run by private organizations, with programs that vary considerably in length and types of courses offered. Since most of the technicians help in design work, creativity is sought-after. Other qualities that a technician must possess are good communication skills and the ability to work in team. Job Prospects for Technician : Opportunities as Technician Job prospects for technicians depend largely on specialization and location, composition of industry. Candidates with an associate degree or job training have great opportunities to work as technicians. Day by day, technology is becoming more complicated. So employers are looking for more skilled technicians having extensive knowledge and training. Though there are various opportunities to work as technicians however candidates must have possess appropriate training and certification. Also there are any job opportunities which will be open after retirement or leaving of the labor force. Remuneration for Technician: Remuneration for technician depends on various factors including area of specialization, training, experience and type of industry. Average salary for aerospace technician is $54,900 per annum while electrical and electronic engineering technician gets $52,600 per annum. For an industrial engineering technician, average salary is $48700 per annum and a mechanical engineering technician draws $47800 per year. While civil engineering technician and environmental engineering technician gets $42,900 each as average salary
